For some it's a touchy subject. Some interact. some don't. Some turn off the lights, while others hand out candy or go get candy. This isn't an open debate about this here. That is your choice, you personal conviction to be played out by your family.
Should we not prepare our heart all the time. Surely not just Advent and Lent, but an ongoing of "hmm, maybe i really need to evaluated this, i mean it's small, but maybe God wants this too." At least that's how i feel. I like to think "maybe God want this" as if i don't know he's all consuming, wanting all aspects of our lives.
Silly little me.
Sent into the Harvest: Halloween on Mission -- John piper, Desiring God
My favorite part of this:
"What if we took to the offensive on Halloween? Isn’t this how our God loves to show himself mighty? Just when the devil has a good head of steam, God, like a skilled ninja, uses the adversary’s body weight against him. It’s Satan’s own inertia that drives the stake into his heart. Just like the cross. It’s a kind of divine “trick”: Precisely when the demonic community thinks for sure they have Jesus cornered, he delivers the deathblow. Wasn’t it a Halloween-like gathering of darkness and demonic festival at Golgotha, the place of the Skull, when the God-man “disarmed the powers and authorities [and] made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them” at the cross (Colossians 2:15)?" ---John Piper
