This clip, the first time i saw it in the movie, i busted out laughing. Then after watching it over and over i realized, it was funny because it was true. Then it became sad.
How many times do we give something in the hope of getting things in return. To the little gods. You know, our idols. We try to manipulate things, we scheme, we plot. We want our way, our quick fixes. We try to give more and more to our little "gods", hoping it will fill our priority more.
Think about it, shop-a-holics shop because it gives them a feeling of happiness. They sacrifice a lot of money to this idol because for some reason they have a void in them. I think usually a Jesus shaped void. Some how they need the Capital G God to fill it, or if they are believers they need to believe He already has.
I feel the same with people who chase after money, they have a void. They try to fill it. I know this for those who like the old me, who chased love. I manipulated, schemed to get my way, to try to fill my holes. I compared everyone to the person before them. I feel i lived a portrial of Eccl. 7:26( The Message) A woman can be a bitter pill to swallow, full of seductive scheming and grasping. The lucky escape her; the undiscerning get caught. Do you know how unsatisfying/bitter that leaves you? By the time i became a believer i had a u-haul of my own baggage from this. The Lord's such a Great Baggage Handler.
There's a reason the word gods is lower case. They aren't good enough to be capital, worth the respect, big letter like the one God. Ha, i just realized when you type something in HTML mode and bold it, it puts the word strong on both sides. That's right blogger, God is double strong. Good point.
In the clip King Julien says "no" at first when asked if it works, see i think we do the same, we know it's gonna fail, even if at first it feel like it works, it will fail.
See here in Ecclesiastes 7:29(NLT) But I did find this: God created people to be virtuous, but they have each turned to follow their own downward path.” see He knew our little hearts would search after our own ways. Yet still He sent His son, you know the one shaped like that void, to show us as believers a living example of Holiness, and what does He say about our Holiness?
Lev. 22: 32 b I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Also, 1 Peter 1:13- 16 (Niv) Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
Bam, simply put. Why can't we be ok, with our schemes/little gods, verse 14 handles it so nicely. It's evil from when we lived in ignorance. So what do we do then? Read Verse 15 & 16. You also need to Believe, hang on, truly have your life invest in this: 1 Peter1: 18 -23 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Sincere Love, this is good especially for today... Valentine's to reflect the amazing love that has took place on a cross.
A love not self seeking. Not a " I totally bought you that i tunes card so you'd buy my that perfume", or a " i wonder what they bought me, i hope it isn't lame". A good & perfect love. To those who didn't deserve it. Amazing. I pray you would meditate on that today.
