late night heroism

{written last night}

The Hubs just got home. Not because he was on call, i mean he was. but not a normal call. He's phone went off. Hadn't gone off much today. This time he was excited as he talked. he hung up.

Then he says," you know that fire, well they need help knocking the building down." I need to use my sledge hammer & back hoe to tear it down." as he gets ready i hear him talking to our boy. Both so excited at this opportunity, then i hear the words. " yep i get to tear into the building so they can get to the fire."

"WHAT!!! You mean the fire isn't out?? So you knocking down a building that is on fire." I calmly said.

"They need to get to fire better, to knock it out. It's deep, and close to other buildings." He says calmly.

{written this morning}
Now in case you don't know my hubs, isn't a fire fighter. Those stories he has of pipes busting and him fixing them in a huge hole, which has collapsed on him, pressing him between dirt and pipe. Those stories, while they still freak me out, aren't as bad. As he got on his boots, i saw our boy dancing around his dad in excitement.

Was it the danger involved, the fact we ate steak and watched river monsters this evening & they were feeling quit manly, or the fact his dad knew he needed to help end this situation?

It wasn't till after he left and me and my boy were talking, i realized it. As crazy as it was for my hubs to go out, he felt he needed to render his service. Valor.

Reminds me of Benaiah:"And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds. He struck down two ariels of Moab. He also went down and struck down a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen."

Benaiah was one of David's thirty men. Men who definitely had valor, and did " great deeds". As i was trying to wind our boy down to bed time, i was part nervous, and part upset. Choosing to go to help take out a fire, it's on-call week, the day before a new reg. week, how was i gonna have my relaxing Sunday bath with this on my brain?

Then the Lord brought something to mind. Years ago when Easton was about fi's age, we were waiting to get a diagnosis of a heart murmur. The cardiologist thought it was so bad he'd need to do surgery on my boys heart. He said by the sound of it, it could be needed. Months of waiting, praying so fervently for healing of his heart. Watching him for warning signs of it getting worse. You know collapsing, turning blue, not breathing. During that time i remember praying for his strength {which along with his energy, never depleted} that he would be a man of valor, like David's mighty thirty. That as he grew he would have examples of men, who step up to help when called or not called.

When hubs got home, i was grateful. For his safety, his favor among men ;that they know they can call him, for his example. Not saying i didn't want to say "what's a matta wit you?", and ban man vs. wild & river monsters. But it's sort of hard to focus on me, when the Lord had focused me on what He's doing. Growing my guys. May not be easy as a momma and wife to watch, but i am grateful i do get to watch.

I hope you are having a fabulous Monday.
